Greg Rhoades was one of the premier multi-sport athletes in Wes-Del history, excelling in both football and basketball during the mid-1970s while setting numerous school records that showcased his athletic talent and leadership. As a quarterback, Greg helped redefine Wes-Del’s passing game and established himself as one of the most accomplished offensive players the school has ever produced.

In football, Greg still ranks among Wes-Del’s career leaders in several categories, including career passing yards with 3,670 yards and 46 touchdown passes from 1973-1976. During his career, he completed 342 passes on 509 attempts and accounted for nearly 5,000 total yards of offense. His 27 touchdown passes and 1,656 passing yards during the 1975 season both set school records at the time. Greg also teamed with Dave Besser for an 88-yard touchdown pass in 1975, which remains one of the longest pass plays from scrimmage in school history. In addition to his passing success, he also contributed over 1,100 rushing yards and scored 146 career points.

On the basketball court, Greg was equally dominant as one of the top scorers in Wes-Del history. He scored 1,044 career points from 1973-1977, which stood as the school record for many years, and averaged 23.4 points per game during the 1976-77 season. Greg also set school records with 544 points in a single season and 46 points in a single game against Lapel during the 1976-77 season. His 19 field goals made in that same game also established a school record.

Greg’s outstanding accomplishments in football and basketball helped set the standard for future Wes-Del athletes and secured his place among the school’s all-time great competitors.
